Makan - Makan || Sara Thai Kichen, Balok

Actually we saw this restaurant during our previous trip to Kuantan but didn't get the time to dine there..

I was awed by the restaurant landscape.. it's like eating in the luxury of our own veranda.. seriously.. It felt like home..

menu book

At first we ordered this..

udang goreng tepung
the batter was different from what we used to have.. it was a nice kind of different.. we like it! the chilli a bit spicy not the usual sweet taste..

tomyam campur
the tomyam was full of seafood.. and the taste hit right at the every spot.. spicy is the main thing..

kailan ikan masin
I love their kailan ikan masin because the kailan is still crunchy even after awhile.. look at how green the green is..

ayam goreng kunyit
At first Adam have his chicken with rice.. after that he just meratah the chicken..

After all of the above were served, we decided to add couple of dishes more.. dasar tamak haloba!! sebab nampak macam sikit sangat lauk..

ikan aji-aji bakar petai
I guess the downfall of this dish was the fish.. it tasted too fishy for me.. maybe we should just stick to our normal ikan siakap (barramundi) or better ikan pari (stingray)..

sotong goreng tepung
the batter is just the same as the prawn.. but they fried it magnificently that sotong is still juicy.. this is our lauk meratah..

Makan - Makan || Warung Otak-Otak Che Wan, Kemaman

It was like a message being sent to us when we were relaxing in the hotel room.. there were a tv show on food in Terengganu.. and they went to this warung that sells the best satar and otak-otak.. and the host said that it is  family run business and they also involve the villagers.. especially to help wrap the fish paste to a cone shape like the normal satar look..

menu

So we just get ready and head to Kemaman.. it was quite a long journey from Balok to Kemaman.. I never remember it to be that long.. It was not that difficult to find the warung once you arrived at Pantai Teluk Mak nik.. You won't missed the warung..

waiting for the food

There were already a bus infront of the warung.. but luckily there's still empty tables.. as we sat, a makcik came for our order.. Mr. AZ ordered a plate of satar and another plate of otak-otak.. while we wait for our order we can see that there's a couple of ladies is preparing otak-otak..

otak-otak

The otak-otak was different from the normal otak-otak Kempas.. this one is not the processed meat.. but small cuts of fish with their special marinated otak-otak sauce.. it was something different but nice.. Adam usually would fight for an otak-otak didn't quite like this version.. he refuses to even try them.. Mr. AZ love it.. he even ordered for another plate of otak-otak.. I didn't quite remember how many otak-otak in a plate..

fresh satar

Satar was delicious.. I love this one the most (from my experience of satar eating) because this one didn't have the fish bones sticking out from the satar.. it was a smooth and clean satar.. For me the taste was almost the same to any other satar I've tasted before..

After that Mr. AZ added a plate of keropok lekor and pulut panggang.. yummy.. the pulut panggang was full with inti ikan.. and is different from the normal selling in KL..and is still warm..the keropok lekor was fresh.. they fry when ordered.. so the keropok lekor serve to your table piping hot..

It was a fulfilling trip.. eventhough we have to travel for 1 hour plus to only have snacks.. even Mr. AZ agree to that..

Makan - Makan || Ana Ikan Bakar Petai, Tanjung Lumpur

We came here with a friend of Mr. AZ who lives in Kuantan.. he suggested here.. it must be good.. I knew that they have a branch somewhere in Bangi but never got the chance to try.. We met at the restaurant early before Maghrib since there were surau at the restaurant..

There's still alot of empty tables when we arrived and still easy to pilih-pilih the seafood.. I just let Mr. Az and his friend do the food ordering process..

still wearing his medal

These are what Mr. AZ ordered..

ayam goreng kunyit for Adam

ikan masak 3 rasa

Ok I admit that I didn't know the name of the fish that Mr. AZ choose for this type of cooking.. but I don't quite like it because the fish is not garing.. the fish cooked not to my liking but I love the 3 rasa sauce.. full of taste..

butter prawn

I doubt this is the normal butter prawn.. perhaps butter prawn tak jadi?? the size of the prawn was huge.. the taste was there but not the look..

sotong goreng tepung
This is the best dish of the whole lot.. I just can't stop eating.. I almost asked Mr. Az to order another plate.. I end up eating this with plain rice.. seriously.. very tasty.. I think everyone should order this if you ever come here.. you'll miss the best sotong goreng ever!

We were quite please with the food they serve here.. even the service was good eventhough they were full that night.. When we left, there were a couple of groups waiting to be seated..

Food : the best sotong goreng tepung ever.. other food was nice.. but we didn't try their specials ikan bakar petai.. maybe should try it on our next visit..
Service : service was a breeze.. but I don't agree that they serve 1 dish at a time since the difference between serving 1 dish after another is just a couple of minutes apart.. some more they serve rice as the last dish..

Cleanliness : clean
Parking : parking by the street or the parking lot across the street

Kuantan Getaway

We had another getaway to Kuantan.. this time around is to redeem a 2 nights stay at Swiss Garden Resorts & Spa.. the 2 nights were spent by relaxing at the beach or at the hotel's entertainment centre.. or even trying out places to eat.. which I would cover in my next entries to come.. not much picture of the getaway.. just pictures of Adam having fun..

his favourite spot at the hotel lobby

It was truly refreshing.. I came back to the office with a brand new me feeling.. maybe should have a getaway every month?? heeee..
